This teaching and learning sequence uses resources from the Tiagarra Tasmanian Aboriginal Cultural Centre and Keeping Place to enable students to explore the continuing nature of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures, Aboriginal technologies, and the concept of energy transfer.
This resource uses a combination of videos, discussion questions, independent research and hands-on experiences to deepen students’ understanding of and appreciation for the sophisticated fire-starting technologies of Aboriginal peoples. These learning experiences are designed to be delivered through an integrative enquiry-discovery approach that encourages students’ curiosity through experimentation and exploration.
This learning experience is aligned with the Australian Curriculum (version 9) areas of Year 7 History and Year 8 Science, as well as the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Histories and Cultures and Sustainability cross-curriculum priorities.
