Tradition and Transformation

This monograph was the result of ten months' consecutive fieldwork in the Groote Eylandt area off the east coast of Arnhem Land in 1969 and a brief re-visit in 1971.

This monograph focuses mainly on the Bickerton Island Aborigines of the Angurugu Mission and describes various patterns in their social life both contemporarily and under conditions of sporadic and increasing Aboriginal-White contact.
